On January 27, 2014, the Minister of the Environment of the Czech Republic Tomáš Podivínský has denied the application of the company SouthOil s.r.o. (represented by Mark Bush jr.) to set a natural gas exploration area in the eastern part of the country. The original application area covered 1 341 km2 and included 178 municipalities. It also covered 80% of the water protected area East bohemia carst. “The fact that the Mr. Bush decided to explore in an area known for its precious reserves of fresh water speaks volumes about the social and environmental responsibility of such companies,” said Jiří Malík, the leader of the Coalition Stop HF that along with many of the municipalities involved fought the application.
